Step 1 – Consultation
A consultation is essential before starting treatment. The consultation will take approximately 30 minutes. The price of the consultation is credited towards your first treatment. What will be discussed during the consultation?
- The process of electrolysis/thermolysis is explained to you in detail.
- Your personal and basic medical information is taken and kept securely on your file. Your medical history is important to make sure there is nothing preventing you from receiving treatment.
- A treatment plan is discussed with you. This includes viewing the area to be treated and informing you of the future commitment required to effectively and permanently remove the hairs. This includes such things as treatment frequency, length of each treatment and an estimated time frame until conclusion of treatment.
Step 2 – Cleaning Stage
This stage is when all hairs in the treatment area are treated for the first time. As per the diagram, a small sterilised probe is inserted into the follicle. The probe directs a small current directly to the root, or papilla, which is responsible for feeding and nourishing the hair. This current destroys the root (by a chemical reaction in the case of electrolysis and blend, or by heat in the case of thermolysis.) The hair is removed by tweezers. Each hair is treated individually. Hair has a growth cycle consisting of 3 stages. The hair needs to be in the early stage (anagen) for effective results. The cleaning stage removes all hairs in varying stages of growth, ensuring that when they grow back, they will be in the anagen stage, ready for step 3.
Cleaning stage usually requires weekly treatments for 2-3 months.
Step 3 – Control Stage
The control stage treats any regrowth. Since all hairs were removed during the cleaning stage, the majority of hair growth will be in the anagen stage, which is ideal for treatment. The amount of hairs in the treatment area will already be greatly reduced since many of the anagen hairs treated during the cleaning stage will not return.
Control stage usually requires 2-3 weekly treatments for 2-3 months.
Step 4 – Maintenance Stage
The maintenance stage is for treating any stubborn hairs. Due to factors such as distorted follicles, roots not fully destroyed during previous treatments or nearby follicles reactivated, a minimal amount of hair may grow in the treated area. The maintenance stage will target these hairs until they are permanently destroyed.
Maintenance stage usually requires 4-6 weekly treatments for 4-6 months or until desired results achieved.
